highway man ramblin round nothing but a suitcase full of bottled tears not a care for himself or anyone else harmonica soundtrack in the dusty desert town to town barroom girls dancing like a diamond shines it sparkles before she speaks a shot of booze to get him through just enough fuel for the endless drive through nothing to nowhere waiting round to die nothing but a desert sunrise stops the flow but once a day at the end of another lost night on the lost highway waking up beneath the stairs that lead to gypsy sallys love for a night and nothing more careful not to let his suitcase spill because the shame will fall with the rain the blues are the song wont be long til he ties on his flying shoes satisfaction no longer a thought in his ramblin mind riddled with rot full of holes of memories as tired as his feet as far away as a mountain moon no desire but to not be there wherever that may be shenandoah shadows melancholy on his soul the sound of weariness in his throat no hope to rest easy or rest at all because there has got to be traveling on forever and ever til he lays down to sleep forever and ever wearily
