funny thing funny is making misery bearable and horrible tolerable making life livable and heartbreak overcomeable and loneliness doable and nighttime endurable letting me make it through the weeks and months and years just because my brain tickles and my throat makes a tinny grunt what a funny thing funny is and what a joke it is not but what a lifesaver it is staving off despair long enough to survive staving off sadness long enough not to cry staving off gloom long enough to smile to connect with other human beings with these meaningless tinny grunts what a funny thing funny is in all its sound and phooey signifying nothing but lifes absurdity in all its goofy glory naked in the cosmic rain with nothing to prove and nothing provable and nothing lasting and nothing durable a whole planet nothing more than a strand of hair on the barbers floor at the end of a short day swept up tied up put out and forgotten a funny thing funny is the futile phenomenon the goal of my life the quest of my wretched existence to laugh and make others laugh and beat back the tears of frustration that threaten our eyes when we consider our vanity our silly efforts our hollow journeys and our funny bodies oh what a funny thing funny is
