lonely woman ornette coleman the shape of jazz to come i dont understand it but i cant stop listening to it even though i sort of hate it the squeals the meaningless runs the harsh imprecise harmonies the rhythmless drums the squirrelly bass line the shrill mix but there is something there something musical in the noise dark and slinky around alleyway corners with berettas and stilettos outside a speakeasy is she gonna charge me at the end of the night or just get up and go i would like a double whiskey neat and filterless lucky strike smoke curls up until it meets the big cloud yeah thats lonely woman but eventually is something else like joyful mania right before a breakdown right before you realize heaven is hell and everything good is a bad chemical reaction in your brain knowing the speed is gonna put a vice on your head in the morning piggies squealing at the slaughter bacon call and response on the killing floor maybe in bed reaching and reaching for the heavy moment here it comes here it comes nope not yet but maybe eventually
